Road proposed near temple tank scrapped

The Muzrai department has scrapped its plan to construct a road which would have drastically shrunk the Vasanthapura kalyani (temple tank).

The decision came following directions from the Bangalore Urban district administration.
The matter had taken a turn since residents began to oppose the government’s decision to construct the road which would result in the lake shrinking from 80,000 sq ft to a mere 21,000 sq ft. They had alleged that it was a ploy by realtors to usurp the road for personal gain.

Deccan Herald had published a report on November 19 about the Muzrai department’s plan, under the title ‘Development plan may rip this temple tank apart’. This was followed by a strong protest by local residents who submitted several petitions to the commissioner of the department as well as Deputy Commissioner of Bangalore Urban district G C Prakash.
The decision to scrap the project was based on a report submitted by a senior officer of the district administration.
