Nandini K Mehta and K Murali Mohan.Variety fare

The Narthan Academy of Dance and Music (Nadam), a prominent dance institution from Bangalore is training young aspirants from the last ten years successfully.

The Academy also conducts “Kala Nadam” cultural festival every year. In this year’s festival, held last week the institution presented the proceeds to Visthar an organisation that works in the area of community-centred advocacy and empowerment.

On the opening day three dance programmes - a Bharatanatyam, Kathak and Andhra Natya - were held at the Chowdaiah Memorial Hall.

Preeti Sundar Rajan and Dr Seshadri Iyengar opened their Bharatanatyam recital with a Ganapati Bhajan.

Ahalya, Ravana Vadha and such incidents of Ramayana were narrated in Tulasi Das bhajan, “Sri Ramachandra Kripallu” and they concluded with a tillana.
From the beginning the duo displayed self-assurance and maturity, striving to arrive at a spectacle.

Seasoned artiste Nandini K Mehta and K Murali Mohan chose a dhammar of 14 beats. Angry Radha and Krishna were portrayed well in “Rusali Madhava”, a Marathi geethe. Both of them gave admirable abhinaya in “Latu Lajhe” and “Suno Anuja”.
The tharana performed with finesse was a fitting finale to a beautiful performance. Kala Krishna in Andhra Natyam style performed neatly. As Satyabhama his abhinaya fell short of depth, thought it was pleasing.

Artiste felicitated

M A Jayarama Rao is a versatile artiste, a gamaki, author and an organiser. On the eve of his 75th birthday a commemorative volume called “Amritadhara” was presented to him, last week. On the occasion H N Meera gave a vocal recital. Meera opened the vocal recital with a song on Saraswati “Shringa Puradheeswari.” A ugabhoga followed the popular devaranama “Baro Krishnaiah” and “Elladi Bande” was another interesting pada. The prelude of “Dasanaguvadake” suited the composition “Dasa Dasara Maneya.”
