Simple home remedies can go a long way in relieving a pregnant woman of her pain, stress, and anxiety, enlightens Dr Karuna Malhotra

Pregnancy is a major physiological change and a major change in women’s bodies.  As soon as a woman becomes pregnant, the body begins to change so that it can support both her and the unborn. Home remedies during pregnancy are a must. Morning sickness, headaches, digestive problems, weird food cravings, muscle aches, and the likes can be managed. Homeopathy too is of great help during pregnancy.

Third month

Actea Racemosa is the medicine which should be taken from the beginning of the third month as it relives pain till the end. It is very important for a pregnant working woman to opt for homeopathy treatment as the stress during pregnancy is at peak and so the pain is.

Breech babies

A breech position means that your baby is in a bottom-down position inside your womb. To avoid breech birth, pulsatilla should be taken.

Therapies and massages

Aroma oils are aptly suitable in this condition. They are very good source of stress buster.* To remove stretch marks – A pregnant woman should have a massage of wheat germ oil, lavender oil, and frankincense oil. Massage it around breast, thigh and abdomen.* To avoid swelling and cramps – Massage the area with ginger oil, cypress oil, lavender oil, and til oil.*  To relieve piles - Go for a hot sitz bath 2-3 times a day, and make tight-release-tight-release movement with your rectum in the hot water.

Stress buster

Before the labour pain begins, a pregnant woman should live in a room filled with aroma candles or aroma lamps as aromas are a great source of relieving stress, headaches, and tension.

Exercises

From the moment you find out you are pregnant, it is advisable to practise yoga as it will keep your body active and leave you in a fine mood. Just make sure you take the advice of your doctor and the yoga specialist before doing it.

Diets

A balanced and nutritional diet is always recommended for a pregnant woman. *  Foods to avoid - Sandwich, bakery bread, bun, dhokla, pizza, steamed rice cake, curd, tomato, tamarind, kadhi. These usually increase swellings and acidity. So, try to avoid such item. But if such problems do not exist, you can take them in very small quantity.* Digestive foods - Those who suffer from constipation, gas, bloating must avoid peas and other ‘heavy to digest’ cereals, and potatoes. They must take green gram as it is easy to digest and gives protein.* Beneficial foods - Black grapes, banana, ripe mango, dates, cashewnuts, apricot, cabbage, cauliflower, and all long green and leafy vegetables. You must keep balance, rather than eating same vegetable all the time.
