BJP offers Sourav ticket for 2014 poll

Former Indian cricket team skipper Sourav Ganguly has reportedly been approached by the BJP to contest for the party in the forthcoming general election.

Sourav has also been reportedly assured of the Union sports minister’s post if the party comes to power.

Sources close to Ganguly said the offer to the former India captain came from none other than BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi. Although neither the BJP nor the former skipper was available for comments, Sourav admitted to a leading Bengali daily about getting the offer from the BJP.

He, however, is still not sure whether he is taking the offer or not. “I’m still undecided on what to do. I’ve been busy for last few days. I’ll let you know soon,” he told the daily during an interview. Rumours of Sourav joining the BJP started buzzing in November when he met party leader Varun Gandhi.

Varun Gandhi is the party’s observer for West Bengal. According to a section of the BJP state leadership, the move to rope in Sourav counteracts Congress attempts to get on board cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar for campaigning during the recently concluded Assembly polls.
