Labour minister Sis Ram Ola dead

Union Labour and Employment Minister Sis Ram Ola died at a Gurgaon hospital on Sunday after a prolonged illness.

The 86-year-old Congress leader had been suffering from various ailments. He will be accorded a state funeral at his village in Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan on Monday.

The Cabinet on Sunday met to condole the minister’s passing. As a mark of respect to  the departed leader, the national flag was flown at half-mast in Delhi and the capitals of States and Union Territories on Sunday and Monday.

The Cabinet also passed a condolence resolution and placed on record its appreciation of his services and deep sense of grief.

Those who condoled his death include President Pranab Mukherjee,  Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Congress President Sonia Gandhi among others.

He is survived by his wife, two sons and a daughter. Born on 30 July, 1927, the Jat leader represented the Jhunjhunu constituency of Rajasthan and was a member of the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly from 1957 to 1990, and from 1980 to 1990 he was a cabinet minister in the Government of Rajasthan.
