A 16-year-old boy drowned in the Dasarahalli Lake at Amruthalli on Sunday.

The deceased has been identified as Mohammad Faraz, a resident of Govindapura and son of Nawaz Pasha.

The boy went to the lake with three friends. He got into the water as others preferred to stay on the bank as they did not know to swim.

Faraz, however, entered the lake but was caught in deep waters. His friends informed the police after they were unable to trace Faraz.

Police and the emergency service personnel searched for the body till late Sunday evening and the efforts proved futile. The body was retrieved on Monday morning and handed over to police after postmortem.
