Police constable commits suicide

Two more persons kill themselves over 24 hours

Three persons, including a Delhi Police constable, hanging themselves in the last 24 hours in the Capital, police said on Monday.

A 40-year-old Delhi Police constable ended his life inside his house in outer Delhi’s Narela on Monday morning. Though no suicide note was recovered, a probe has revealed that Sanjay was depressed over his prolonged illness.

Sanjay lived with his family in Police Colony and was posted with security of Supreme Court. Police said Sanjay was alone at the first-floor house on Monday morning. “He was found hanging with a rope tied to the ceiling fan,” a police officer said.

Family members took Sanjay to Maharishi Valmiki Hospital where he was declared brought dead. Police were informed after which a post-mortem was conducted. “Questioning of family members has revealed that Sanjay was depressed and was undergoing treatment for a liver disease,” the officer added.

In the second incident, a 24-year-old labourer committed suicide in a temple in north-east Delhi’s New Usmanpur on Monday afternoon.

The victim has been identified as Dhiraj who hailed from Uttar Pradesh’s Baghpat district. “Dhiraj had been working with the temple for the last six months. He was allotted a small accommodation in the temple premises where he was found hanging by other workers,” a police officer said.

Several locals have been questioned, but investigating officers are clueless about the incident. Even after not recovering a suicide note, police have ruled out foul play.

The third incident took place in north-east Delhi’s Khajuri Khas where a 22-year-old youth committed suicide in his house. Yamin was unemployed and had been searching for a job. “Frustration over unemployment is believed to be the reason which forced him to take the extreme step,” the police officer added.
