Sugama Savari drive launched

Last Updated 18 December 2013, 20:01 IST

An awareness campaign that aims to recognise best practices of auto drivers in the City, ‘Sugama Savari,’ was launched by actor Sudeep at Cubbon Park on Wednesday. Sudeep will be the ambassador of the drive.

Inaugurating the drive, Sudeep asked the auto drivers to follow traffic rules and cooperate with the City traffic police. City Police Commissioner Raghavendra Auradkar said the City police would take steps to resolve problems of auto drivers as part of the campaign. He added that the City police have planned to organise workshops and training programmes for auto drivers.

An android app ‘Happy Auto’ was also launched as part of the campaign. The app easily dowloadable on all android platforms enables commuters to lodge complaints about rash behaviour by auto drivers, when they demand extra fare or refuse to come to a particular area. The commuters can also put in a good word about the auto drivers. A special team is being put together within the City traffic police to evaluate the responses based on which autos will be recognised for good travel.

B Dayananda, Additional Commissioner (Traffic), said such autorickshaws recognised for providing good travel experience will have a sticker ‘Sugama Savari’ pasted on it.

He said in the days to come, commuters can be choosy and travel only by autos evaluated ‘Sugama Savari.’
