Bimal Gurung to return as GTA CEO

Gorkha Janamukti Morcha (GJM) president Bimal Gurung, who resigned as the chief executive officer of Gorkha Territorial Administration (GTA) earlier in the year in demand of a separate statehood, will take up his old office once again.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who met a GJM delegation on Friday, was also able to persuade the hill party to go for a two-tier Panchayat system for the time being.

Gurung, who led the GJM delegation to meet the CM at the state secretariat, will be sworn in as the CEO of GTA on December 26, the government announced. “I’ve spoken to them (GJM leaders). Since the Governor is not able to visit Darjeeling at present, Gurung will be sworn in at the Raj Bhavan (in Kolkata) on December 26,” the chief minister said after the 45-minute-long meeting.
