Honour for empowerment of women

The awards will aim to identify and reward organisations that are innovative in empowering women in India. Edelgive Foundation has allotted a total of Rs 50 lakh as prize money under five different categories with Rs 10 lakh for each category like health and well being, education, livelihood, social and cultural rights and governance.

The concept has to be innovative in the field mentioned where women are empowered though the organisational activities. Winning organisation can use the funds given as prize money either for their ongoing projects or start a new project. Last year, there were three categories like education, health and employability where the awards went to Samata from Andhra Pradesh, Anjali from Kolkata and Azad Foundation from Delhi respectively.

Four organisations from Karnataka, Aashwasan Foundation and Akshay Patra from Bangalore, SIEDS (Society for Informal and Formal Education) in Kolar and Jeevandaan from Mangalore had participated along with 120 organisations across India.

The winners will be felicitated with the award in the month of March 2010 and the last date to submit the application is December 21. Interested NGOs and social sector organisation can visit www.edelgive.org for more information and details.
