Welcome New Year with some awesome food

Last Updated 25 December 2013, 15:12 IST

All it takes to have a great New Year’s Eve is close friends, the right attitude, a place to party and of course great food and drinks. So, this New Year start in style with a selection of glamorous party snacks, cocktails and mocktails which also suits your party theme.

Light snacks, cocktails or finger foods are the way to go on New Year’s Eve, as opposed to a sit-down dinner. This will give people the opportunity to mingle with others without restricting them to a designated seat at the dinner table. Here are some food items that will make for a great menu for the New Year. Nachos and salsa, pretzels, chips, nuts, vegetable and dip, chicken wings, mini pizzas are few of them.

Chef Ajay Mohan Mathur, Executive Chef, The Lalit, New Delhi, gives few party food items. “Pretzels with brown sugar rosemary Dijon – a multi flour, honey flavoured soft, salty pretzels is a good option. Another is Spinach pinwheel appetisers which is filled with cheese and multi-coloured tortilla spirals. This is a perfect food and highly recommended for all party animals.”

Cranberry scones – tastes awesome when served with lots of butter, mouth-melting yogurt and cranberry based scones, and looks attractive too. Probably the best blend of mild cranberry and buttery salty casing blushed with the sourness of fresh yoghurt.
Crab stuffed mushroom – fresh crab meat stuffed mushroom popovers baked to perfection in an oven. Serve with paloise sauce. This recipe is likely to be appreciated by those who love good food. Those who love wine would love it even more.

Pistachio goat cheese bites – these are delicious little nibbles, keep a spark combination of goat cheese and pistachio, baked in oven to make it crunchy. Everyday would prefer this combination of goat cheese and pistachios, a relaxing food with high nutritive value, perfect with wine and butter.

Nidhi Wadhwa from Zura Bistro Bar and Bakery too shares her party menu with Metrolife. “We have all kind of party snacks on our menu, from European to Indian to Chinese. From bruschetta to ratatouille tart to falafal, all of these items are popular. In Indian dishes, we have paneer tikka, rajma galauti, methi malai tikka and chicken seekh. In Chinese we have honey chilli chicken, basil chilli fish, etc.”

In drinks we serve pitchers, both cocktails and mocktails. We have a cocktail with vodka base and sangria with both red and white wine. Other than this we have the regular mojitos,” adds Nidhi.

Head chef of Mocha, Gaurav Gidwani, says, “We have oriental, continental and Indian flavours for our party food items. We have oriental diced chicken, jalapeno poppers and other spicy potato items. We also have bruschettas which are very popular among people.”

Another great idea for organising a new year party is to organise a potluck dinner, where each guest brings something. This is an excellent way to get every guest involved in the preparation of the party. So, for this just indicate on the invitation that it’s a potluck dinner and try to have every person tell you beforehand what they plan on bringing to the party.
