Police suspect KLO, Islamic groups hand in Jalpaiguri blast

As fear lingers in Jalpaiguri after the first ever terror attacks, authorities are yet to ascertain the perpetrators of the blasts that claimed five lives late Thursday evening.

On Friday, forensic experts reached the spot to collect samples that could provide pointers to those responsible for the attack, but sources suspect involvement of Kamtapur Liberation Organisation (KLO). They do not rule out the hand of Islamic terrorists in the attacks.

The police said the attack had KLO’s handprints as the organisation, which has been demanding for a separate Kamtapur state since 1993, marks its martyr’s day on December 26 and foundation day on December 28.

Besides, they point out the bicycle bomb used in the blasts has been a favourite weapon of the KLO.
A section of the police administration, however, are also keeping an eye on the nearby Indo-Bangladesh border and are not yet ready to rule out involvement of some Islamic group, given the volatile situation in the neighbouring country.
