Double joy for TN

Tamil Nadu bagged a grand double clinching the men’s and women’s titles in the ninth Youth South Zone Volleyball championships at the Shankar Mutt grounds here on Sunday.

Tamil Nadu men beat Andhra Pradesh 25-18, 25-16, 25-19 in 55 minutes while in the women’s summit clash Tamil Nadu overwhelmed hosts Karnataka 25-13, 25-18, 25-19.
In the women’s final. the visitors dominated the summit clash sealing the contest in 65 minutes to go one up from last year’s edition when they had lost to Kerala in the final in Vadakara.

In the first set, Karnataka struggled with their service reception and ground defence as they fell behind Tamil Nadu early on.

Monisha and Amalu Mohan tormented the Karnataka defence with their booming smashes and clever drops as Tamil Nadu wasted no time in wrapping up the set at 25-13.

Karnataka put up a better effort in the second set with Arbena, skipper Varishta and libero Bharati combining well as they went neck and neck with Tamil Nadu at 8-8.
Thereafter, the hosts lost the plot as Tamil Nadu nudged ahead with points at crucial junctures and opened up a four-point lead to go 16-12.

Women: Tamil Nadu bt Karnataka 25-13, 25-18, 25-19.
