Horse racing gets a leg-up from celebs

Horse racing, one of the oldest sports in India came alive recently in the City when Sunil Kumar Verma and Daksh Oberoi hosted their second edition of the Master Racing Stud and Agricultural Farm Million Cup, sponsored by Master Racing Pvt Ltd at the Delhi Race Course.

A treat for all horse lovers – the race saw participation of thoroughbreds from across the country. The featured races were The Yare Cup, The Christmas Cup, and three other memorial cups. Well known entrepreneur, Shahnaz Husain, who herself is an avid horse racing enthusiast presented the award to the winning horse King Kong (jockey- A Sandesh) of the main race, i.e., Master Racing Stud and Agricultural Farm Million Cup. The award for the winner of the Yare Cup won by ‘sweet girl’ (jockey- Pawan Sharma) was presented by international Designer Reynu Taandon.

The Chief Guest of the event was Tejinder Singh Luthra, Joint Commissioner, Delhi Police. Speaking about the event, Sunil Kumar Verma, said, “Horse racing is the oldest sport in India running from the ancient times. All the horses running in this race were only two-years-old which was the main highlight. Jockeys from all around the nation came to participate in the event and some of the renowned faces made their presence felt which added to the attraction of the racing event. The event is promoted with an aim to spread awareness about this royal game and to present it to the genuine horse lovers of the City.”

It was a thoroughly entertaining show followed by high tea for the guests. The audience were mainly polo enthusiasts, who had come to support their close ones, whose horses were participating in the race, and also, to learn more about Derby.
