Lone dissident voice in KJP

B R Patil rules out possibility of joining Congress

The lone dissident voice in the KJP camp was that of B R Patil, MLA from Aland in Gulbarga district. As TV channels flashed the news on merger, Patil reiterated his stand that he was against the merger.

However, he said that he will take a final decision on his next move after consulting his supporters on Friday. He had repeatedly said that his mindset did not suit the BJP’s thinking or policies.

When contacted, Patil told Deccan Herald: “Personally I am not keen on rejoining the BJP. Since my days of quitting the Janata Party, my constituency workers have followed me to whichever party I joined. This time, I would like to hear from them, before taking any decision.”

When queried whether he was willing to work as an Independent, Patil said that it was not a simple task.

Patil said that as an Independent, he will be a non-entity when it comes to taking policy decisions. He also ruled out the possibility of joining Congress since the party does not require any support. Patil said that he will also speak to other MLAs and workers in the KJP to elicit their response.

Earlier, Gurupadappa Nagamarapalli, KJP MLA from Bidar and senior Lingayat leader, too had resisted the merger. He remained incommunicado on Thursday.
