A 10-year-old girl was beaten to death allegedly by her stepfather who was furious with her for spilling coconut oil on the floor. The incident occurred at 3rd Cross, Nandagokul Layout in Thanisandra on Wednesday. Police have arrested the suspect, Aslam Pasha.

Nooreen Taj, the victim, was applying oil to her hair when Pasha returned home from work at 3 pm. As he entered the house, he heard some noise and looked back. He found a coconut bottle lying on the floor. The bottle had slipped off Taj’s hands. An outraged Pasha then began beating up her.

Taj’s mother, Husna Sultan, 27, returned home only to find her lying on the floor, writhing in pain. Taj told her mother that she had stomach ache and narrated the whole incident.

An angry Husna then called up her two relatives, Chand Pasha and Nawaz. They took Taj to Ambedkar Hospital in K G Halli where she was declared brought dead, police added.

Husna later lodged a complaint with police and accused Pasha of “ill-treating” her daughter. She alleged that Pasha never liked Taj for the simple reason that she was his stepdaughter. Husna accused her husband of murdering Taj and demanded stern punishment for him.

Husna, a garment factory worker, was divorced by her first husband, Saleem Pasha. She had three children from her first husband — Muskan Taj, Nida Taj and Nooreen Taj. She bore Aslam Pasha a son, Syed Abdul Subhan.

Aslam Pasha had divorced his first wife, Tahseena Taj, before marrying Husna. He had four children from his first wife — Tayyeba, Misbah, Mohammad Sadique and Mohammad Jaffer.
