Last Updated 06 January 2014, 19:31 IST

The UPA government is planning to set up 54 kendriya vidyalayas for the current fiscal. This includes pocket boroughs of Gandhi family Rae Bareli and Amethi. Union Human Resource Development Minister M M Pallam Raju’s constituency Kakinada will also see setting up of a Kendriya Vidyalaya.

Sources in the HRD Ministry said the proposal for setting up of the schools was recently sent to the expenditure finance committee for its clearance.

The government plans to set up a total of 500 kendriya vidyalayas during twelfth five year plan.

After a drubbing in the Gandhi bastion in Uttar Pradesh polls last year, central projects appear to be raining in the Rae Bareli and Amethi.

In the monsoon session of Parliament last year, the government brought two separate Bills for setting up an Aviation University and a women’s varsity with a budgetary outlay of Rs 702 crore in next five-six years in Sonia Gandhi’s constituency.

The two Bills, which were introduced in the Lok Sabha, is pending for clearance. The sources said the ministry will try its best to get cleared the two Bills from Parliament along with others during the upcoming Session in February.

The proposed Aviation University will be named after former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi while the women’s varsity, the first such facility in the country, will be christened after former prime minister Indira Gandhi.
