Last Updated 06 January 2014, 20:45 IST

The elections to three committees of the Youth Congress were cancelled on Monday following discrepancies in ballot papers. The polling has been put off indefinitely.

The elections to the State, Assembly and parliament level committees were scheduled to be held on Monday and Tuesday. The counting was scheduled to take place on Tuesday.

The polling was to begin at 8 am. But by then, some party workers and K T Benny, the returning officer, noticed the bloomers. Names of 13 candidates did not match with the symbols they were allotted.

Discrepancies

The discrepancies were noticed in case of Vaishnavi Sudheendra and Varun Prasanna Kumar, strong contenders for the post of State Youth Congress president, presently held by Rizwan Arshad.

Nearly 50 candidates are contesting the State elections, while mix up of the symbols were noticed in case of 13 contestants, it is said. There are nearly 34,000 voters across the State.
