Encounter is not the aim of police: IGP

Speaking to presspersons after reviewing the security arrangement for Datta Jayanthi in Chikmagalur on Wednesday, he said “we arrest Naxals who get spotted. Those Naxals who surrender will be produced to the court. Their life will be decided according to the court decision. Government is contemplating on ‘surrender package’ to bring Naxals to the mainstreams of the society. However, no decision has been taken so far,” he clarified.

Successful operation
“The combing in four Naxal infested districts of the State have been successful. We have been successful in establishing co-ordination between police and ANF; having friendly relation with tribals residing in thick forest; collecting details on Naxal activities and instilling confidence among the people. During the operation, police have spoken to the school children and teachers in rural areas and have taken their problems to the officials concerned.”

Decline in Naxal influence
Hosur said “the Naxal influence have been declined in the state. After March 17, Naxals have not indulged in violence. In operation against Naxals, several Naxals have been injured on August 17. We have received lot of information during the interrogation of arrested Naxal leaders Devendra and Asha.” Several villagers have announced that they will not support Naxals. Youths are not coming forward to Naxal movement. It is our duty to combat Naxal movement.

“We have only interrogated Naxal supporters or sympathisers and not troubled innocents. The allegations against police department is far from truth. If anyone has experienced torture, then they can complaint to the senior officials,” he informed.
