Woman ends life over water tiff

A 38-year-old woman hanged herself at her house in AK Colony, on Monday night, following a tiff with her neighbour over collecting water from a public tap.

Police said Sunita and her neighbour Manjula came to blows and the residents of the area pacified them. However, Manjula barged into the house of Sunita a few hours later and allegedly beat her up with slippers in public. Sunita was found hanging from the ceiling fan in her bedroom.

KG Halli police have registered a case and are further investigating.

‘Extension of custody’

The City police are likely to seek extension of custody of psychopath Jaishanker since more time was needed for his interrogation.

Police Commissioner Raghavendra H Auradkar said police custody of Jaishanker would end on Wednesday and he would be produced before the court. Meanwhile, Madiwala sub-division ACP Shanta Kumar who is heading the probe, is said to have taken Jaishanker to Parappana Agrahara Central Prison to reconstruct the sequence of his escape from the high-security jail. He was shown photographs of prison officials on duty in an attempt to identify the person who may have helped him flee.

Shanta Kumar said interrogation was on and Jaishanker was co-operating with them. Since crucial bits of information were still required, they would seek extention of police custody for more days, he added.

Jaishanker’s escape from Central Prison in the wee hours of September 1, 2013, had caused embarrassment to the Prisons department. He was nabbed from a shanty near Koodlu Gate five days later.

Speculations were rife that some prison officials had facilitated his escape. City police were granted custody of Jaishanker after his discharge from Victoria Hospital, where he was treated for injuries he suffered when he jumped from the peripheral wall of the prison.
