8-acre land recovered

The Bangalore Urban district administration, on Wednesday, recovered eight acres of land worth Rs 60 crore in Betta Dasanapura village in Begur hobli near Electronics City.

Stating illegal quarrying activities were going on in survey number 21, Bangalore Urban district officials said stone crusher, bitumen mixing unit, eight trucks, two cranes and gravels were seized. The total cost of seized property is Rs five crore. The entire land was later fenced.

Venu Gopala Gowda had got one acre and 30 guntas of land on lease but had constructed a compound wall around the remaining seven acres  where he ran his stone crushing business.

He then sub-contracted the business to Raghavendra Reddy and Puttaswamy Gowda. While Reddy had set up the bitumen mixing unit and was supplying it to BBMP contractors, Puttaswamy Gowda ran a concrete mixing plant.
