Rama Sene moves HC for ban on Hinn's visit

Last Updated 09 January 2014, 21:07 IST

Objecting to the impending visit of controversial American evangelist Benny Hinn, Sri Rama Sene, in a petition before the High Court, has urged the court to issue directions prohibiting Hinn’s entry and ban holding of any event.

Hinn is scheduled in Bangalore from January 15 to 19, 2014. Referring the writ petition to the division bench, Justice A S Bopanna has asked them to consider it as a PIL.

According to the petition, when Hinn visited Bangalore in January 2005, there were protests, demonstrations and over 100 buses damaged, besides rendering entire City tense. The State government, the petition said, has sought to allow Hinn, despite being aware of the repercussions his visit would have.

The petition contended that the State government was in the process of bringing in Karnataka Prevention of Superstitious Practice Bill 2013. But by welcoming Hinn, who claims to work miracles on the diseased persons and curing them, it was indulging in double standards.
