Palike owns 6,000 properties

The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), which is mortgaging its properties to tide over its financial crisis, has more than 6,000 properties in Bangalore. Of them, 432 have been leased out.

Following the Karnataka High Court directive, the Palike started digitising all its properties to protect and update them, to put in place a transparent mechanism.

A senior Palike officer said: “For the smooth functioning of the estate division of the Palike, we are indexing all records, scanning and preserving them so that there should not be any instance of missing records.”

The BBMP is also planning  a door-to-door survey and computerisation of all records. It has taken back 75 properties after the lease period ended, and has many properties still leased out for a pittance, to religious, charitable, cultural and education organisations.
