Bangalore malls on high alert

Last Updated 25 November 2009, 20:07 IST

Forum Mall, for instance, has deployed plain clothed personnel to constantly patrol the length and breadth of the mall at all points of time, said Subash Chandra Reddy, General Manager, Crisis Department.

“Apart from physically checking every entrant to the mall, we make sure that any suspicious activity is immediately reported by monitors,” said a security official from Bangalore Central.
“We also do random checks on cars and other vehicles entering the premises,” he added. The official expressed that while his outlet had always taken security very seriously, it was after 26/11 that it had further strengthened its security forces.

In Garuda Mall too, security has been increased almost 10-fold, according to Vijaya Kumar, the head of security.

“ We have been coordinating with the Police and intelligence agencies, who have planted their own personnel for a few days,” he said.

Police and outside security forces are in constant touch with the mall’s security department. Apart from security personnel, cameras too monitor every square inch of the mall.
While such stringent security measures contribute to the larger cause of peace and upkeep of law, it has taken an incident of the scale of 26/11 to wake up the officials and reorient them of the importance of citizen safety and security.
