Kodagu DCC President B T Pradeep has called upon the public not to communalise and politicise the incident of assault on Kodagu district BJP President Suja Kushalappa.

It may be recalled that Suja Kushalappa, brother of MLA Appachu Ranjan was shot at and injured by four-member gang near the sub registrar’s office on Thursday evening.

Addressing a press meet here on Saturday, he said that a few organisations are trying to politicise the incident and any attempt to communalise and politicise the incident will be condemned by the Congress. “All have the right to protest in a democracy. However, in the name of protest, poor and innocents should not be put to trouble. Innocents were assaulted during the bandh call given by the BJP, at Kadigekatte and Madikeri. The Congress will condemn such incidents.”

Pradeep asked as to why holidays were declared for schools and colleges following bandh call given by the BJP.

Whether the officials are acting as per the acts of the BJP? he asked. There was no need for declaring holidays for schools. “I have already brought the issue to the notice of the District-in-Charge Minister.”

Congress spokesperson B S Thammaiah said that murder and assaults have been reported in Virajpet constituency for the last five years. There is a need to probe into all such incidents.

MLA K G Bopaiah should raise all the cases of murder and assault reported in Virajpet constituency during the Assembly session and urge the government to conduct a detailed probe into it.

Assault

In a separate press meet, SKSSF district spokesperson C M Hameed said that two BJP MLAs had claimed that it was the minority votes which helped them to win the Assembly elections. However, now, there has been incidents of assault on minorities.

“If we do not get protection, then why we should vote for the BJP?” he asked. “Minorities were living harmoniously in the district. However, the incident of assault on religious head and his friend during the bandh call given by the BJP, at General Thimmaiah Circle in Madikeri is condemnable act.”

The police should arrest the culprits who were responsible for assaulting innocents on Friday. If no legal action was initiated on them, then we will stage protest, in Madikeri on January 13. To spread the message peace and harmony, a human chain will be formed at Gonikoppa, on January 26.

Flayed

On the other hand, Hindu Jagarana Vedike has condemned the assault on Suja Kushalappa. “A few fundamental organisations are behind the attack. The police should arrest the culprits immediately,” said District Secretary Ray Thammaiah.
