Re-elected Youth Congress chief, Rizwan eyes LS ticket

Last Updated 12 January 2014, 20:43 IST

Having retained his post as the president of the State Youth Congress, Rizwan Arshad has thrown his hat into the ring for securing a Lok Sabha ticket from Bangalore Central constituency.

With a victory margin, which is claimed to be close to 11,634 votes, Arshad said that the three MPs from Bangalore have failed to do anything good for the city.

“As a result, I believe that Bangalore is seeking a change. The youth are in large numbers in the constituency and across the State. With the Congress moving in the direction of getting more youngsters into Parliament, there is a chance for us,” he said. Arshad said that the response from the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee was ‘very encouraging’.

He said that as the president of the State Youth Congress, he was hoping to push for the names of five to six ‘good’ candidates, for fielding them in the Lok Sabha elections.

Varun Kumar, son of Prasanna Kumar, the former MLA from Pulakeshinagar, came second in the elections with 1,535 votes.

Kumar is likely to be the vice-president of the Youth Congress.

In total, a 24-member team was elected in the State. As many as 50 candidates were in the fray for the posts of the Youth Congress.

The results are yet to be announced. Till late in the evening on Sunday, the results were not made available to the media.
