Rahul pays surprise visit to Kerala health centre

Doctors, staff and patients at a community health centre (CHC) at Thuravoor in Alappuzha district had a surprise visitor in Rahul Gandhi on Monday.

The Congress vice-president took time off a scheduled engagement to drop in at the CHC during his road trip from Kochi to Alappuzha, where he was to attend the Yuva Kerala Yatra organised by the state unit of the Youth Congress.

Congress sources told Deccan Herald that the visit was not part of the original itinerary.
Gandhi administered polio drops to a baby, Atul, at the CHC. The centre sported an unfamiliar bustle with ministers, party workers and special protection group (SPG) personnel joining the leader. Gandhi, during his 20-minute visit, interacted with doctors at the CHC and spoke to the centre’s administrators about Kerala’s acclaimed public health system. He also discussed with Accredited Social Health Activists workers their campaigns in the state and concerns, including low wages.
