An Anti-Naxal Force (ANF) constable allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself at the Jaddinagadde ANF camp at Amasebailu here late on Monday night.

According to police, Albert D’Souza, 38, son of Adam D’Souza of Puttur, shot himself below the chin with his self-loading rifle.

The reason for the suicide is yet to be known. The constable’s body was sent to the Wenlock Government Hospital in Mangalore for postmortem and was later handed over to the family.

Albert had joined the Karnataka State Reserve Police in 2000 and worked in the 7th battalion, Mangalore. He was posted as a constable at the Jaddinagadde ANF camp three years ago. Last week, he had attended a map-reading training session and had reported for duty on January 12.
