Grand processions mark Milad-un-Nabi

Milad-un-Nabi, the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad, was observed with grand fervour across the City on Tuesday, as Muslims took colourful tableaux in processions to the YMCA grounds on Nrupathunga Road where a large gathering was held in the evening.

Two grand processions, the Juloos-e-Muhammadi rally from the YMCA grounds and Id Milad procession from the Bamboo Bazaar grounds near Shivajinagar, culminated at the Jalsa-e-Milad programme at the former venue.

Participants from over 90 localities presented colourful and heavily ornamented tableaux representing various themes like Prophet Muhammad, Mecca, Medina, Ajmer, Parliament House, the Assembly and even rulers like Tipu Sultan and Hyder Ali.

The processions passed through Mysore Road, Majestic, Shivajinagar, City Market, Neelasandra, Tilak Nagar, Tannery Road, Malleswaram, Palace Guttahalli and other parts of the City. Children were dressed up in their best clothes.

Get-together

The day started with people gathering at a common place and sharing breakfast and sharbat (drink prepared from fruits or flower petals) before the procession. Ajaz Ahmed, information secretary of Markazi Meelad-o-Seerat Committee, Sunni Jamiat All Karnataka and Juloos-e-Muhammadi Committee, said the occasion was all about spreading the message of integrity, brotherhood, equality, love and compassion among all, irrespective of religious background.
