Sankranti Rathotsava atop B R Hills

Thousands of devotees enthusiastically took part in the Sankranti Rathotsava that was held at Biligiri Ranganatha Hill in the district, on Wednesday.

Special pujas and religious rituals were held from early morning, while the Car festival began at the auspicious time between 10.40 am and 11.05 am.

The rath was taken out in a procession amidst chanting of religious hymns, and ‘Govinda... Govinda...’ renting the air. 

KSRTC had arranged special bus services to B R Hills as part of the festival. Drinking water facility and other basic amenities were provided on the premises.

Devotees distributed ‘prasada’ at various places surrounding the temple. The vendors selling fruits, coconuts, puffed rice and others were seen doing brisk business.

The residents of Y K Mole village were seen taking a huge rabbit on a procession. After performing puja to the deity at 7 pm, the rabbit was released in front of the temple. 

It is believed that the direction in which which rabbit runs will be blessed with good rains and prosperity.

Animal sacrifice

The district administration and Police department were successful in preventing any animal sacrifice at the place of worship. Legislators S Jayanna, Puttrangashetty and others visited the temple and offered prayers.
