Tharoor now in 'extramarital' row

He and wife debunk tweets with FB post of being 'happily married'

Tharoor now in 'extramarital' row

Union Minister Shashi Tharoor has once again been done in by 140 characters after his wife Sunanda Pushkar used his twitter account to target  Pakistani woman journalist Mehr Tarar for “stalking” her husband and indulging in an “extramarital affair” with him.

The minister, who found himself in a fresh controversy following the cross-border twitter war reportedly initiated by Pushkar on Wednesday, managed to bring some peace on the micro-blogging site only on Thursday after he issued a joint statement with his wife, maintaining that they were “happily married and intend to remain that way”.

“We are distressed by the unseemly controversy that has arisen about some unauthorised tweets from our Twitter accounts. It appears that some personal and private comments responding to these unauthorised tweets – comments that were not intended for publication – have been misrepresented and led to some erroneous conclusions,” the joint statement, posted on the social networking site, said.

The controversy surrounding Tharoor erupted after several messages directed at Tarar were tweeted from his account and Pushkar simultaneously accused the Pakistani journalist of stalking her husband on the micro-blogging site.

After coming to know about the tweets, Tharoor immediately put up a disclaimer along with an apology claiming that his account was hacked, even as a section of the media reported quoting Pushkar that it was she who had actually posted those messages from her husband's account. The controversy deepened on Thursday after Pushkar, third wife of Tharoor, accused 45-year-old Tarar of trying to "break" her marriage with the diplomat-turned-Congress leader. “For her information Shashi and I are very happy together, sad for her to know I guess; I get sick and go away 4 (for) treatment & the vultures pounce. Or perhaps to build up twitter followers, thats a cheap thing 2 (to) do; ask the Pakistanis what they think of her & yes 20 calls a day is stalking,” Pushkar tweeted.

Her tweets even accused Tarar of being an agent of Pakistan’s Inter Services Intelligence, prompting Tarar to say that she would file a defamation suit against her.

“For a woman to trash another linking her w/her husband is the lowest form of sickness ever. It’s nauseous. No respect for her marriage,” the journalist said.
