Rabid dog attack: Several injured in Sr'patna taluk

Residents complain against GP's inefficiency

A Forest department jeep was damaged as the elephant, which found it difficult to enter the forests due to the presence of a trench, tossed over the vehicle, near Nagapura Tribal Settlement, Block 6, in the taluk, on Wednesday evening. Nobody was hurt.

Efforts were on to drive the two elephants back into forests since Wednesday morning. Even though one elephant entered the forest, the older animal, aged about 55 years, camped at Block 6 of the settlement. 

Forest personnel followed the elephant till late in the evening. At one point, the elephant abruptly turned around and attacked the jeep. It also tossed the vehicle which hit a boulder and fell. The bonnet has been damaged, and nobody was hurt as the Forest staff were on foot, away from the jeep.

Two persons, who had sustained injuries due to the pellets that scattered from bullet shots, aimed at the elephants, on Wednesday evening, are recovering at K R Hospital, in Mysore, according to Forest department officials.

Anand and Suresh were closely following the rescue team, when they sustained the injuries. All efforts of the officials to keep away people had failed, causing panic.
