SP leader's nephew rapes teen, flees

A teenage girl was allegedly gang raped by the nephew of a senior Samajwadi Party leader and his friend in UP’s Banda district.

According to reports, the girl was abducted at gunpoint from her house in Bisanda on Wednesday night by the SP leader’s nephew identified as Ahmed and his friend Raees.

The duo took the victim to a nearby orchard and allegedly raped her. The victim reached home on Thursday morning and narrated the incident to her family members. She was sent for medical examination and a case was registered with Bisenda police station on a complaint filed by her parents.

Though Raees was arrested, Ahmed is on the run and police are looking for him. SP leader Shamim Bandvi, who was also the district unit president of the party, condemned the incident and said he was with the victim's family. He also sought punishment against his nephew if he was found guilty.

Locals say police were trying to shield Ahmed because of his political connection. Police reportedly said Ahmed did not rape the girl while the girl said she was gang raped by two persons.
