Vishnu wins National title

Vishnu Vardhan fired in a record 25 aces en route to thrashing Jayaprakash Mohit Mayur and emerge as the National Grass Courts Tennis champion at the South Club here on Saturday.

Natasha Palha defeated Rushmi Chakravarthi in straight sets to emerge as the new national champion in the women’s singles category.

Second seed Natasha ruled the roost against veteran Rushmi to clinch the issue 6-1, 6-1 in one hour and two minutes.

The 36-year-old Rushmi had some joy by winning the doubles with Bhuvana Kalva as the duo beat Natasha and Nidhi Chilumula 6-2, 7-6 (7-4).

Men’s doubles: Ronak Manuja/ Ashwin Vijayragavan bt Vijay Sundar Prashanth/ Md Fariz 7-6 (7-2), 6-4.

Women’s doubles: Rushmi Chakravarthi/ Bhuvana Kalva bt Natasha Palha/ Nidhi Chilumula 6-2, 7-6(4).
