Shashi Tharoor's statement to be recorded tomorrow

Last Updated 18 January 2014, 20:04 IST

The Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) will be recording Union Minister Shashi Tharoor’s statement on his wife Sunanda Pushkar’s death on Monday instead of Sunday as Tharoor will be going to Haridwar district of Uttarakhand on Sunday with family for immersing ashes in River Ganga.

The SDM has also prepared a list of people who will be questioned on Monday.
It has also come to light that Tharoor and Sunanda were involved in a heated argument while travelling from Thiruvananthapuram to the capital on Thursday.

Sunanda had refused to return to the Lodhi Estate house due to which the couple ended up booking separate rooms in Leela Palace hotel. Sunanda had booked room number 342, while Tharoor booked room number 345. Sources said that Sunanda shifted to room number 345, where she was found dead, only on Friday morning.

Bharatiya Janata Party leader Subramanian Swamy said that it seems to be a case of pre-planned murder. “The injury marks on her body, and the way this case is unfolding, it seems to be a well-planned murder. We must know what is the truth, and who was she likely to harm, for whom was her living a dangerous thing,” he said.

Due to the high-profile case, police had also tightened security before Sunanda’s cremation. On Saturday, heavy police presence was noticed outside AIIMS mortuary, Tharoor’s house, Leela Palace hotel and Lodhi Road Crematorium.
