Worker suffocates to death

A worker who was cleaning a guttter pit died of asphyxiation on Saturday afternoon in KP Agrahara.

The deceased has been identified as Chenchaiah, 75. Chenchaiah, was a labourer hailing from Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh and working with a contractor.

A senior official said a group of about 15 labourers were working opposite KP Agrahara police station. He said Chenchaiah had got down into the 3x3 feet pit.

When he did not come out for a long time, a few other workers got into the drainage pit and dragged him out. Chenchaiah was unconscious by then. He was shifted to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead.

KP Agrahara police registered a case of death due to negligence against contractor Ramesh and arrested him. He was produced before a local jurisdictional court and released on bail.

Man arrested

City police claimed to have cracked a case in which four bikes were set afire recently in Rajajinagar, by arresting a person. The arrested has been identified as Soori alias Suresh, 25.

A bike parked in front of a house in Rajajinagar I ‘N’ Block was set afire by miscreants on Friday night. Sandeep Patil, DCP (North) said, inputs given by an eyewitness in a similar incident four days ago, matched well with one of the known offenders in the area and again eyewitness accounts of Friday night's incident also matched with the same man.
He said Soori confessed to the crime during interrogation. He said he along with another accomplice of his had run riot on both occasions in an inebriated state.
