Guttedar writes to Sonia, seeks Cabinet berth

Last Updated 19 January 2014, 20:12 IST

Senior Congress MLA Malikayya Guttedar on Sunday wrote to the party president Sonia Gandhi and vice president Rahul Gandhi urging them to get him a ministerial berth in the Siddaramaiah-headed Cabinet in the State.

Guttedar, who had openly expressed his dissatisfaction for not being made a minister, is learnt to have told the high command that injustice has been meted out to him by not recognising his seniority and contribution to the party. He is a six-time MLA from the backward Hyderabad-Karnataka region and that he deserves to be a minister, he is learnt to have stated.

He is learnt to have complained that many of the ministers are not discharging their duties properly, burdening the chief minister and affecting the day-to-day administration. So steps should be taken to revamp the ministry before the coming Lok Sabha polls, he has said.

According to sources, there are many senior legislators in the party who have been sidelined. The party should recognise their contribution and give them suitable positions in the government, he is learnt to have said. He had recently met AICC general secretary in charge of Karnataka Digvijay Singh and urged him to give an opportunity to serve as minister.
