Teenage lovers attempt suicide, boy dies

 A suicide attempt by teenage lovers on railway tracks ended in the death of the boy and the girl sustaining grievous injuries late on Sunday night.

The deceased has been identified as Renuka Prasad (17), a resident of Kammanahalli in Magadi. Prasad and a 14-year-old girl, a class IX dropout, were said to be in love for the past couple of months. While Prasad used to work as a data operator with a private company, the girl was employed at a garments factory.

According to police, the families of the two were opposed to the relationship as they were very young and belonged to different castes. The dejected lovers decided to end their lives.

On Sunday night, both consumed rat poison and lay on the track between Kengeri and Nayandahalli.

Police said that at about 11.15 pm as the speeding Kaveri Express neared approached them, the girl backed out and started running.

While Prasad was mowed down by the train, the girl sustained severe head injuries after the train struck her. A passerby rushed her to a nearby private hospital from where she was shifted to Nimhans. The girl is said to be battling for life.

City Railway police have registered a case.

Security guard killed

A speeding car mowed down a security guard and injured two others after it rammed an electricity pole near RV Engineering College on Sunday night.

The deceased has been identified as Manu, 41, resident of Mutturayanagar working as a security guard at a private automobile showroom on Mysore Road.

The accident occurred at around 7.45 pm when Manu was on his way to a nearby hotel. A speeding car struck him down before crashing into an electricity pole.

The impact was so huge that the electricity pole was uprooted and collapsed on a temporary tent, put up by workers who were laying Bescom cables injuring Ali Wardhi, 21 and Sadiq Ul Islam, 19. There were eight workers in the tent.

All the three were shifted to a nearby private hospital. However, Manu succumbed to his injuries on Monday.

The driver of the car who caused the accident fled the spot abandoning the vehicle. Kengeri police have registered a case.

Student killed

An 18-year-old student was killed after he rammed his bike into the road median near Sahakarnagar Cross on Sunday. According to police, Sanjeev, a resident of Byatarayanapura and a BSc student, was overspeeding, and lost control over the bike when he drove over a road hump. He died on the spot.
