Makkala Gudi Betta suffers Tourism department's apathy

Last Updated 21 January 2014, 19:51 IST

Though there is a great scope for tourism in the district, lack of basic amenities has been discouraging the explorers. Makkala Gudi Betta, near Somwarpet is one among them.

The Tourism department has completely neglected this picturesque hill. The hill, which is just 17 km away from Somwarpet, will be one of the favoured picnic spots if basic amenities like good roads and others are provided.

It is said that the place was frequented by shepherds for many decades, who had built a temple by arranging small rocks. Even today, people from surrounding villages perform puja on Shashti days.

A visual treat awaits one atop the hill. Apart from a great view of the green mountains, one can also spot Bajagundi village, the historical Madapura fort, backwaters of Harangi dam, and green coffee plantations belonging to Tata group, and others.

A good road and signboards at vantage points, are the bare minimum facilities that needs to be provided here to attract visitors.
