AAP govt to start large-scale hiring before LS polls

Before the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections, the AAP government may come with a “game changer”.

The government may start hiring people for the city government jobs in Delhi.
Delhi Minister Manish Sisodia, who is the second in command in the AAP government, said that the government is working hard to fulfil its promise to regularise hiring on contracts.

“Let me clear a thing that we are going to regularise contractual jobs and not the contractual employees currently holding the position.” Sisodia told Deccan Herald.
There are more than two lakh contractual employees in Delhi and if the government starts a phase-wise regularisation, vacancies for hundreds of government jobs will be declared in next couple of months.

“We will give preference to the people who are experienced and aged as they cannot go for a fresh start. The age limit for the new vacancies is likely to be enhanced and experience will be added in the criteria,” he said.

He also said that in view of the Lok Sabha polls, the government will try hard to make it before the election model code of conduct comes into affect.

“When a group of contractual teachers, who are protesting for a regular job, approached us, I assured them that the government is working on it and we also have to face the public in the Lok Sabha elections,” he said.

“We just cannot regularise a bunch of teachers. We have to take care of the DTC drivers, conductors, paramedic staff, fourth grade employees, sweepers and thousands of other contractual staff,” he said.

The government is preparing a structure for recruitment to fulfil promises made in its manifesto and provide employment to those who have lost their jobs at the end of their company’s contracts.
