Last Updated 23 January 2014, 17:57 IST

With the Lok Sabha polls approaching and parties gearing up to announce a list of their candidates, dissent has emerged among the Congress party workers, against MP Ramya.

Similar differences of opinion had cropped up even during Mandya Lok Sabha polls between ex-chief minister S M Krishna and district-in-charge Minister Ambareesh.
In an effort to pacify both the groups actor Ramya was selected as the MP candidate, and she had been successful in securing votes more than expected.

Her frequent visits to the district was unfortunately not received well by the local leaders. They complained that they were neglected and not informed about her visits to the district.

Assurances

Moreover, there are also complaints that she has not fulfilled the promises as assured by her during elections.

The recent meetings held in Srirangapatna and Pandavapura witnessed local Congress leaders publicly opposing Ramya’s candidature for the upcoming polls.

Though the same leaders remained silent at a meeting held in Mandya recently, they took an unanimous decision to support the candidate suggested by Ambareesh.

However, only Ramya’s name figures is in the list of candidates dispatched by the KPCC to the high command.

The Congress district unit has placed a demand before KPCC to provide an opportunity to S M Krishna, to contest from Mandya. But Krishna has rejected the same.

Factions

The factions of both Krishna and Ambareesh are trying to gain an upper hand as the elections are around the corner. There is also a complaint that Ramya has visited the Congress office here only twice till date, and had failed to take local leaders into confidence, or to even convene meetings.

Sensing trouble, Ramya had held a meeting of youth leaders in Mandya recently.
