Windies crumble as Aussies march ahead

Last Updated 27 November 2009, 17:55 IST

West Indies, staring at a big first innings total by Australia, crumbled under the pressure and now face an uphill task to avoid follow on.

The onus was on captain Chris Gayle (31) to give West Indies a good start, which he did to a certain extent but failed to carry on as West Indies collapsed under disciplined Australian bowling. The only resistance came from Travis Dowlin (44 n.o.) and wicketkeeper Dinesh Ramdin (22 n.o.) who will now need to post big partnership on the third day if West Indies are to make anything out of this match. Earlier in the day, a composed half century from Marcus North (79) and an entertaining unbeaten 50  from Nathan Hauritz helped Australia reach a total of 444 for eight declared.
