Diggy, Mistry in Congress Rajya Sabha list

Last Updated 27 January 2014, 19:55 IST

The Congress on Monday nominated heavyweights Digvijay Singh and Madhusudan Mistry as its candidates for the Rajya Sabha elections from Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat respectively.

The two leaders, considered close to Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi, are involved in planning and executing the party strategies for the Lok Sabha election campaign.

Besides, the Congress also decided to re-nominate K V P Ramachandra Rao, M A Khan and T Subbirami Reddy as candidates for the February 7 Rajya Sabha elections.

The Congress is yet to announce its candidates from Assam and Haryana. The names of the scion of the Amethi royal family Sanjay Singh and former Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit were being talked about as probable candidates from the two states.

Sanjay Singh, a Congress MP from Sultanpur, is learnt to be miffed with the party and was making overtures to the BJP. His nomination from Assam is an indication that the Congress wants to keep him in good humour given the clout he enjoys in Amethi, a seat represented by Rahul Gandhi.
