AAP ups ante in row with Delhi Police

Kejriwal will seek action against errant policemen

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is in no mood to retreat from the AAP government versus Delhi Police battle. On Monday, a senior officer said the government will take up two recent crime cases to the higher authorities and seek action against the `culprit’ Delhi Police officials.

“Last year, a young boy named Karan Pandey was shot dead by a policeman and the police had claimed that he was a member of the biker’s gang who were pelting stone on the police. But the magisterial enquiry report, which came two days back, clearly indicates that the boy was just a pillion rider and was not involved in any stone-pelting. And another gang rape with a girl in Madhu Vihar police station on Sunday night will be taken up to the higher authorities,” he said.

The government will seek action against the errant police officers.

“We will see what action the police have taken against its officer who shot down a young lad and what accountability they have fixed in the gang rape incident against the local police officers. We will continue demanding action against the errant officials if we do not get a satisfactory answer,” the Delhi government spokesperson said.

Work unaffected

Asked about how the city government will approach the Home Minister SushilKumar Shinde who has already termed Arvind Kejriwal as a ‘mad’ CM, he said, “The political statements will not affect our work. We will decide whether to meet the LG or the Home Minister regarding the law and order situation in Delhi. We will not sit with our hand folded in any such situation.”

Delhi Education Minister Manish Sisodia is likely to meet Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung on Tuesday evening. It is understood that he will seek action against the culprit policemen.

The government’s decision came a week after Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal ended his dharna against police officer after which two of the policemen were suspended.
