CBI unearths hiring scam at Bokaro Steel Plant

Last Updated 28 January 2014, 20:52 IST

Unearthing a recruitment scam, the CBI on Tuesday named sons of former governor of Jharkhand Syed Sibtey Razi, BJP's Rajya Sabha candidate Satyanarayan Jatia and retired high court judge D G R Patnaik in FIRs, for allegedly obtaining managerial posts in the Bokaro Steel Plant through fraudulent means.

CBI officials said two cases were registered in Dhanbad for alleged irregularities in appointments. Twenty-three working and retired officials of the Bokaro plant were named. Sons of Razi, Jatia and Patnaik were given middle and junior level management posts six years ago.

Plant officials allegedly entered into a criminal conspiracy by not giving adequate publicity to an appointment advertisement. They allegedly accepted applications after due dates. Some applications were delivered by hand or courier, in violation of norms, thus favouring these candidates.

“It has been alleged that around 13 candidates were favoured and got selected for middle or junior management posts at the Bokaro Steel Plant by fraudulent recruitment and selection process,” a CBI statement said. Erstwhile executive director Jivesh Mishra and managing director A K Narula were among the accused.
