A classic French treat

These precious works of art are popping up everywhere and getting popular among the sweet lovers. They are attractive, they are colourful and they are tasty. Macarons are the new cupcakes.

A macaron is a sweet meringue-based confection made with egg whites, icing sugar, sugar, almond powder or ground almond and food colouring. According to Nidhi Wadhwa, owner and chef of Zura Bar Bistro Bakery, “The macaron is commonly filled with ganache, buttercream or has a jam filling. It also has a large quantity of almond powder and is surely a treat for all sweet lovers.”

“If a person is really fond of almonds, then this is the dessert for them. The most commonly eaten macarons are pistachios, strawberry and coffee flavoured ones,”
added Nidhi.

The sweet is characterised by a smooth top, round in shape and a flat base. It is quite moist and easily melts in the mouth. Macarons can be found in a wide variety of flavours that range from the traditional vanilla, raspberry and chocolate to the
new ones.

Although making macarons take a lot of time, they too have a short shelf life. After whipping, baking and stuffing the macarons, they are kept inside the refrigerator for 24 hours to achieve the right consistency. They are also quite light weight and ideally they should have a soft ending. They’re also meant to be eaten fresh.

Macarons are certainly on a rising trend but the trick is, they’re hard to make perfectly. One cannot make a macaron just like any other sweet or not enough filling or even cannot have too much of sugar.

Macarons can also be a great option for house parties and kitty parties. They can be an easy snack too. They are light and can fulfil the sweet craving quite easily.
