Chengappa passes away

Former badminton player PG Chengappa, 64, passed away here on Wednesday morning following kidney-related problems.

Chengappa, who represented India for six years between 1976 and 1982, helped Karnataka win the Rahimtoola Cup (men’s national team championship) in 1977 as well as in 1978.

Survived by a wife and a son, Chengappa was the men’s double champion with Parho Gangul in 1980 and the mixed doubles champion with Uma Moorthy in 1977 and Radhika Bose the following year.

His funeral will be held in Coorg on Thursday.

Chengappa had been suffering with kidney-related illness for the last three years.
