The BJP has wrested control of the Mulki Town Panchayat by winning 11 of the 17 seats, on Wednesday. The election to the TP was held on Monday. With this, the BJP has come to power after a decade. The Congress had nine seats, BJP seven and the JD(S) one in the earlier council.

The JD(S) and Independents failed to open their account in the TP.

There are 17 wards in the Mulki TP limits. The total number of candidates in fray was 51—Congress (17), BJP (17), JD(S)—9, SDPI (4) and independent (4).

The winners are ward 1—Purushotham Rao (BJP), ward 2—Veena Shetty (BJP), ward 3—Vasanthi Bhandary (BJP), Ward 4— Umesh (BJP), Ward 5—Jabeena Ismail (Cong), Ward 6—Harsharaj Shetty (BJP), ward 7—Sunil Alva (BJP), ward 8—Radhika Kotian (BJP), ward 9—Hasanabba (Cong), Ward 10—Meenakshi (BJP), ward 11—Shailesh (BJP),  ward 12—Vimala Poojary (Cong), ward 13—Shankravva (BJP), ward 14—Kalavathi alias Kallavva (Cong), ward 15—Asif (Cong), ward 16—Hasan Bahseer (Cong) and Ward 17—Kusumavathi (BJP).

Reacting to the poll results, BJP spokeperson Ullal Jayaram Shetty said that the voters have exercised franchise in protest against the attitude of Minister Abhayachandra Jain.

“The BJP was able to fetch four seats more than the previous election. This poll results is an indication for the future election,” he said.

MP Nalin Kumar Kateel said that Minister for Youth Services and Sports Abhayachandra Jain should stop indulging in hate politics and concentrate on development. The voters have taught a lesson to the Congress for levelling false allegations against the BJP during campaign.

In fact, Town Panchayat President Shashikanth Shetty, Vice President Yogish Kotian have lost in the election.
