Armed men rob doctor's house in Bellary

A gang of 10 armed men struck at the house of Dr Satish at Ashok Nagar and decamped with valuables worth Rs 17 lakh, in the wee hours of Wednesday.

The gang that gained entry into the house by breaking open the back door at around 2.30 am, took away Rs 5 lakh in cash and gold jewellery weighing 400 gm, after holding Satish’s father Markandeyulu, mother Vijayalakshmi, younger brother Suresh and his wife Prasannalakshmi, at knifepoint.

Satish, who runs Arunodaya Hospital at Havambhavi in the city, and his wife Kalyani were sleeping in a room on the first floor.

The gang couldn’t force open the door of their room.

Safe ransacked

Markandeyulu said the masked robbers snatched away their mobile phones and dumped them in water. “They took away even my wife’s mangal sutra,” he said. After obtaining the keys of the safe, they ransacked it, he added.

“They later woke up my younger son Suresh and his wife who were sleeping in another room and robbed them of valuables,” he said. The robbers were in their house for around one-and-a-half hours.

‘Mixture of languages’

“They spoke a language, which was a mixture of Kannada and Telugu that is usually spoken in Kolar district,” said Suresh. They did not attack any family members.
