AAP to field over 350 candidates in LS polls

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) will field candidates in 2014 polls against “15 tainted union ministers of Manmohan Singh cabinet and the 73 MPs who are carrying charges of heinous crimes”.

The party on Thursday declared that it would contest for over 350 seats.

The fight against criminalization of politics and corruption would be its main poll planks for 2014, said the party after two-day executive committee meeting that concluded on Thursday. The party’s national council will meet on Friday to give final nod to the poll strategy.

“We have discussed poll issues in our national executive and decided to make fighting against corruption and the criminalization of politics as the main poll planks,” senior leader Sanjay Singh told media persons after the meeting.

“There are 162 MPs with criminal cases registered against them. Of these, 73 MPs have cases related to heinous crimes. The party will try to field candidates against them”, Singh said.

He said that party would  field candidates against ministers like A Raja. “The party would contest elections against 15 ministers against whom there were serious charges and the former Union Minister is one of them,” the leader asserted.

The AAP leaders have been campaigning against 15 ministers even before they formed a political party. Most of the senior ministers of UPA government figured in the list include P Chidambaram, Kapil Sibal and Salman Khurshid.

The party said that the selection of candidates would be delayed for about a week or so as it is taking time to scrutinise right candidates among large number of applicants.
